Students enrolled at the University are insured, at no cost to them, by means of a civil liability policy that provides for compensation for damage involuntarily caused to third parties for death, personal injury and damage to property as a result of an accidental event that occurred in relation to the responsibilities and tasks that institutionally fall to them.

Definition of accident: Any event due to fortuitous, violent and external causes that produce objectively ascertainable bodily injuries, which result in death and/or permanent disability and/or temporary disability.

The insurance applies to accidents occurring during the performance of institutional activities, including commuting risk, resulting in death or permanent disability, or temporary disability. Teaching and practical activities, internships, participation in international programmes (e.g. Erasmus) are protected, provided that they are provided for by the individual teaching regulations, or in any case organized by the University also in collaboration with public or private third parties through special agreements or specific formal acts, provided that they are duly authorized.

The University of Florence, through the official insurance broker MARSH, has identified an insurance product intended for the reimbursement of medical and hospital expenses both for foreign students, researchers and professors staying at the University of Florence (as an alternative to registration with the SSN), and for  Unifi students, researchers and professors who go abroad for periods of study/research.

The policy can be consulted and activated through the Mutualitas portal, which refers directly to the policy documentation provided for both incoming and outgoing, allowing the preparation of a quote and the purchase of insurance coverage by credit card.

Beneficiaries

Students (including PhD students), researchers and professors of universities who are resident or domiciled in Italy and who make a study trip/university trip abroad, or residing abroad who make a study trip/university trip to Italy.

Age restrictions

• students: maximum age 35 years old at the time of issue of the policy;
• researchers and professors: maximum age of 45 years at the time of issue of the policy.

The welfare protections, the ceilings, the policy exclusions and the procedures to be adopted in the event of a claim are reported in the documentation. Please read, before purchasing the product, the policy clauses, any exclusions and the procedures to be observed in the event of a claim.

Important

To ensure the proper functioning of the assistance services and the reimbursement of expenses, it is essential, in the event of a claim, to contact the insurance company by telephone in advance to activate any assistance benefit. Failure to do so may cause the care plan to malfunction and subsequent reimbursements may not be guaranteed.
