National, regional and international projects

National projects

The University participates in calls issued by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and other Ministries, always ranking at the top for the number of projects funded.

PRIN 2022

Within the PRIN 2022 Call for Proposals, published by D.D. no. 104 of 2 February 2022, 597 projects were submitted by professors and researchers of our University (217 as Principal Investigators and 380 as Heads of Operating Units).

The evaluation of the PRIN 2022 Call for Proposals ended in July 2023 with the publication by the MUR of 27 rankings (one for each of the 27 ERC sectors).

The University of Florence has obtained funding for 314 projects (115 coordinated projects and 199 with operational unit responsibilities) for a total cost of € 27,830,038 and MUR funding of € 22,713,594, with a success rate of 52.6% in the macro-sectors:

  • Life Sciences (LS): 100 projects funded, success rate 48.5%
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE): 102 projects funded, success rate 44.9%
  • Social Sciences and Humanities (SH): 112 projects funded, success rate 68.3%

PRIN 2022 PNRR

Within the PRIN 2022 PNRR Call, published by D.D. no. 1409 of 14 September 2022 and financed with PNRR funds, therefore reserved for projects concerning one of the emerging strategic themes related to the objectives of a cluster of the European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation 2021-2027, 308 research projects were presented by professors and researchers of our University (121 as Principal Investigators and 187 as Heads of Operating Units).

The evaluation of the PRIN 2022 PNRR Call ended in August 2023 with the publication by the MUR of 27 rankings (one for each of the 27 ERC sectors).

The University of Florence has obtained funding for 111 projects (36 coordinated projects and 75 with operational unit responsibilities) for funding of € 9,711,128 and a success rate of 36.5% in the macro-sectors:

  • Life Sciences (LS): 35 funded projects, success rate  29,9%
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE): 28 funded projects, success rate 26,4%
  • Social Sciences and Humanities (SH): 48 funded projects, success rate 59,3%

National Operational Plan - Piano Operativo Nazionale PON “"Research and Innovation” 2014-2020

As part of the planning of activities aimed at achieving the objectives defined in the National Operational Plan - Piano Operativo Nazionale (PON), with DD.MM. nos. 1061/2021 and 1062/2021, the MUR has allocated new ESF REACT-EU resources for the definition of doctoral courses and the signing of research contracts on green and innovation issues.

Regional projects

The University has participated, and continues to participate with increasing success, in the calls promoted by the regional authorities, in particular in the indirectly managed loans that are disbursed as part of the Operational Programs of the Tuscany Region.

For the 2014-2020 programming, the University of Florence currently has 80 active funding distributed between the ERDF, EAFRD, FAR FAS and EMFF
