Theses in co-supervision A thesis in co-supervision consists of an agreement between two universities from different countries which aims to create an international educational path through the international mobility of students enrolled in doctoral programmes. The thesis in co-supervision allows the PhD student, through the stipulation of a special convention, to carry out his/her research in alternate periods in both institutions with double supervision (one supervisor for each Institution) and to achieve, at the end of the study cycle and with a single thesis defence, a double or a joint PhD title. The co-supervision agreement can be outgoing if the PhD student has the University of Florence as primary enrollment centre or incoming if the primary enrollment location is the foreign University; for this type, a period of research activity at the University of Florence of at least 12 months is required. International PhD Programmes The University of Florence promotes the activation of international doctoral programmes through the establishment of doctoral programmes or international curricula within the doctoral programmes in collaboration with foreign universities, in collaboration with European and non-European universities and institutions, with the release of a double or joint PhD title. At the beginning of each academic year, the Academic Boards of the courses concerned, within the framework of the agreements stipulated, communicate the list of international PhD students admitted to the course according to the modalities drawn out in the relevant agreements, for subsequent enrollment at the University of Florence.
