Cooperation for Development

In the last few years Italian universities have increased their operability in the international cooperation for development field, contributing to the processes of stabilisation and democracy; including also established actions and synergies with other key players, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

The initiatives of the University of Florence

International cooperation with Developing countries has by now fully become one of the elements of the Internationalisation strategies of the University of Florence. To enhance its operativity, the University has undertaken several initiatives:

  • Creation of a network of professors responsible for international cooperation in each Department
  • Participation in the association of universities cooperating for development (Coordinamento Universitario Cooperazione allo Sviluppo - CUCS), composed by more than 30 Italian universities
  • A memorandum of understanding with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo - AICS)
  • Agreements with Universities located in developing countries (check the interactive map)
  • Joining the Italian Higher Education with Africa foundation (IHEA) to promote the internationalisation of African universities and contribute to local development by means of cooperation
  • Establishment of a technical scientific committee to support actions regarding inclusion and diversity. The Rector has appointed professor Mirella Loda as academic representative for the development cooperation activities and relationship with AICS and CUCS
