PhD Programmes

The Dottorato di Ricerca (Research Doctorate-Ph.D.) constitutes the third cycle of education provided by the Italian academic system and it is functional to the acquisition of the skills which are necessary to undertake highly qualified research activities in universities, public and private institutions.

The duration of the course is normally 36 months. The call for access to the course is published every year at the beginning of the summer. The title of Dottore di Ricerca (Ph.D.) is awarded after the defence, or discussion, of the final thesis.

Law 15 of 2022 amended the text of Article 38 of Legislative Decree 165 of 2001, introducing into Italian law the possibility of recognizing - for academic purposes - foreign PhD degrees directly by universities
