The Dottorato di Ricerca (Research Doctorate-Ph.D.) constitutes the third cycle of education provided by the Italian academic system and it is functional to the acquisition of the skills which are necessary to undertake highly qualified research activities in universities, public and private institutions.

The University of Florence presents a proposal for the continuous training of school personnel, tailored according to the Ministry National Training Plan: 30 and 60 CFU qualifying training courses | Specialisation courses for educational support

To better meet the specific training needs of public administration employees, the Minister for Public Administration and the University of Florence signed a Memorandum of Understanding: PA 110 cum laude

State Qualifying Examinations for the authorisation to practise professions are held every year. It is only after passing the state examination that one is qualified to exercise the relevant profession and can register in the corresponding professional register.

Unifi promotes and manages curricular traineeships for students and non-curricular traineeships for recent graduates at Unifi.

Admission to Specialisation Schools is possible only with the following qualifications: university degree, master's degree or specialisation degree, qualification obtained abroad (considered by the University to be comparable to that required by the rules of each Schools), qualification to practise the profession for Schools in the health area.

To access Specialisation Schools candidates must hold a Second Cycle Degree (laurea magistrale o specialistica) or equivalent. 

Moreover, to enroll in the courses belonging to the School of Human Health Sciences, students must also hold the National Board Qualification as MD (abilitazione all'esercizio della professione).
